about
RODMAN
HALL
ALLIANCE
We were a volunteer, community, ad hoc group of visual arts professionals who came together to champion the continuation of Rodman Hall Art Centre as a public art museum at its site in St. Catharines, Ontario.
We believed this could only be done through renewed community partnerships and the sharing of Rodman Hall's assets as well as it's management and financial obligations. We welcomed the engagement of all who supported this aim.
Rodman Hall Alliance tracked the ongoing controversy surrounding Brock University's stewardship of Rodman Hall since it announced in 2015 its intent to end its tenure and return Rodman Hall to community ownership. Brock's agreement with the community committed the university to operate Rodman Hall until 2023. The Alliance undertook to chart a history of events, reports and documents that tell the story of this ongoing saga that threatened Rodman Hall as a widely used and beloved historic and cultural public amenity. We actively advocated that Brock act responsibly to assist in the transition of Rodman Hall to the community.
With the failure of the city of St. Catharines to support the efforts of the Alliance, Brock University subsequently sold Rodman Hall to developers who have transformed it into a private boutique hotel.
The ownership of the art collection was transferred to Rodman Hall Art Centre Inc., a registered charity and is currently in storage.
